I met Dr. Buchanan through Sugar's Gift, an organization that provides in-home euthanasia for terminally ill dogs. She was so kind and compassionate when it was time for my Peanut to cross the Rainbow Bridge. She explained the process so that I was comfortable and gently handled my dog as if he was her own. When all was said and done, she wrapped him in a blanket with his little face exposed (as if he was merely sleeping) and carried him out in a basket. That sweet image will stay with me forever. My heartfelt thanks to Dr. Buchanan. I highly recommend her to care for your pets.

When the day came for me to make the gut-wrenching decision to ease my much-loved Stewart out of his suffering due to cancer and heart failure, Dr. Buchanan arrived at short notice after a long day as a veteranarian. With the utmost care and sensitivity, she helped my much-loved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and I through an event that every dog-owner dreads. For that, I couldn’t be more grateful. I thank Dr. Buchanan for her at home services of euthanizing my fur baby. She was kind and very compassionate in the entire interaction with my sick baby. I had put a few of my pets down in past years. However, it was painful to have to make the humane decision to put my pet (which I feel that they are my baby) down. I sincerely appreciated the fact that she spoke to me and reminded me with every step what she was doing and what would happen. She did not rush me. However, I felt I had put my baby's suffering off long enough.

My baby was diagnosed with cancer in August 2025. Prior to this, she had not been doing well since approximately March 2025. I used to take her to Banfield Pet Hospital in Sarasota on University Parkway. I started seeing her throw up occasionally, what was noticeable that something was not right with her. She had been overweight (18 lbs.) and the vet had stated she needed to lose weight. However, in April 2025, the hospital ran tests and stated my baby may have a UTI. I was given antibiotics for her. At this point, she had loss weight to approx. 15 lbs. from the previous vet visit in 2024. I was told to give her Pepcid AC for the occasional vomiting for 30 days. I made an appointment for the first week in August. The vomiting became more consistent, slowly. In August, when I took her into the Banfield vet office, she lost more weight to approximately 11 lbs. I was told at Banfield once again, that she was okay. I got pushy and insisted something was not right and vomiting her food was not the correct way for her to lose weight. The hospital suggested for me to take her to Blue Pearl Vet Hospital. I had her seen within a week and close to $3500. with various tests, she was diagnosed with a Maso cancer in her spleen. I was told she had a second cancer that had spread in her lymph nodes, she had a heart murmur and a hyperactive thyroid. It was suggested for me to put her on chemo drugs or have her spleen removed. My baby was 14 1/2 yrs. young. I did not want to put her through the chemo or spleen removal surgery at her age. I tried comforting my baby and making her last few months, as best as possible. The holidays were tough while I was also taking care of my 95-year-old dad and I had a death of another family member, the first week of January 2026. I saw my baby deteriorate the last few months. I felt like so much was going on that I put off euthanizing my baby. This did not stop her from getting worse and I felt sooooo guilty about it. I finally made the decision that it was time.

Dr. Buchanan was a genuinely kind human being when interacting with me. She showed compassion and empathy with me with my baby.

I strongly encourage anyone looking for a great vet doctor to utilize her services.

Dr. Buchanan was so professional and kind. My 20 year old Siamese who had cancer drifted off very peacefully. No pain, no reactions because she was so gentle and calm. Truly gave my cat and me the greatest respect, kindness and understanding.

Our Beautiful Old English Sheepdog Teddy was failing and Dr. Buchanan with Avalon Pet Service came to our home and gently put my sweet boy to sleep. She was so very kind and compassionate. After she gently wrapped him in a blanket and slid him on a stretcher . We carried him out to her van with the sliding door already opened and dropped him off at the crematorium. It is so heartbreaking to lose your beloved pet. Her kindness meant the world to me.

Dr Buchanan is 5 stars in all that she does. Our old kidney kitty Chloe went downhill quickly and Dr Buchanan came and handled her lovingly. We were very sad to loose her but having her be able to pass at home was a huge relief.

Dr. Buchanan was absolutely amazing when I had to make the terrible decision to have my beloved baby to rest. She was empathetic, kind, and gentle. She explained the whole process and allowed me the time I needed.

Our sweet kitty, Sissy was in great need of Dr.Buchanan’s gentle care. Every bit of the process of assisting our sweet kitty across the rainbow bridge was met with such care and understanding from Dr. Buchanan. From calling for questions about the process, to scheduling the visit and all the way up to the moment she arrived I knew we were in good hands. This process made it a way less challenging transition for our baby & she was able to pass peacefully, in our backyard with hugs and words of love all thanks to this wonderful service you offer. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and compassion 🫶

Dr Buchanan was very caring during this very sad time. She gave us plenty of time to say good bye to our beautiful boy. We never felt rushed. She gave our boy a gentle pain free send off over the rainbow bridge. It’s never easy but being in the privacy of our home to grieve meant the world to us. We highly recommend her if you find yourself ready to make that decision.

Saying goodbye to not just one, but two beloved dogs back to back is one of the hardest things a person can go through. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Buchanan for the compassion, patience, and genuine kindness she showed each time she came to my home to help them pass peacefully.

She treated my dogs with such dignity and gentleness, allowing them to remain in a place where they felt safe and loved. She gave me the space and support I needed to say goodbye in my own way, never rushing the process and always checking in with such care.

Her empathy didn’t feel routine—it felt deeply human and sincere. In the two most painful moments of my life, she brought a sense of calm and comfort that I will never forget.

Thank you, Dr. Buchanan, for helping me through such a heartbreaking experience with such grace and compassion. It truly meant more than I can put into words.

Dr Buchanan made one of the worst experiences a pet owner can go through, bearable. She came into our home and explained everything that would happen. Her bedside manner was so calm and comforting. Our Pug Max was so at peace in his own home as he crossed the rainbow bridge. We cannot thank Dr. Buchanan and Sugar's gift enough.

Having to put a beloved pet put to sleep is not anything anyone ever looks forward to especially after 17 years spent with the animal, but I must say that Dr. Buchanan was the most compassionate professional and caring person who could’ve come out. She did everything perfectly and I would highly recommend her.

We recently used Dr Buchanan to put down our beloved Ragdoll cat, Molly, at 18 years old. Our family was blessed to have found this amazing Vet/Service! We called 6 other euthanasia services Saturday evening when our 14 yo Goldendoodle declined quickly! Little did we know that we were blessed when the others couldn’t come that evening! Dr. Buchanan was incredibly kind, compassionate and respectful! It was obviously an extremely gut wrenching night, yet her calm compassionate demeanor somehow helped us all! The cremation services she contacts with, Resting Rainbow, is also the best! We picked our boy up today, just 3 days after he passed! Dr. Buchanan recently helped a difficult decision to put my senior dog at peace. She was patient, and explained every step with me. She was soft spoken and gentle with Diesel and it made the process a bit easier for me. For 14 years he was my family and although he didn’t speak a word, somehow he understood me better than most people!

Dr. Buchanan was amazing as she helped our family with Fenway. His journey over the rainbow bridge was very peaceful and she was amazing with my kids explaining what was happening and being compassionate. Highly recommend her for all your vet needs.

Dr. Buchanan made a very difficult day much easier. My son joined the Navy last year and when he left, I told his dog, Zoey, that she had to make it until he was out of Boot Camp. Thank goodness she did! So then I told her she really needed to make it through his A School, and she did it again! She even hung in there until he got to chime home for Christmas! But then she started having more problems. Finally, I knew it was time but wanted it to be as easy on her as possible. I saw Dr. Buchanan, our equine vet, was starting to provide services to help small animals pass at home. Dr. Buchanan scheduled it on the weekend, making it much easier for me, and when she came, she was so comforting and assuring. Little Zoey was able to pass right in her bed, in her home, with no stress of a car ride or the vets’s office, and I didn’t have to do that either. It is always sad to say goodbye, but Dr. Buchanan made it so much easier! Thank you, Dr. Buchanan!
